Comments: My Wifes uncle Isaac J. Osborn flew with the Black Cats in Patrol Squadron 34 in the Pacific Area in April of 1944, he was shot down and listed as MIA, supposedly captured and sent to a Japanese prison camp called RABAUL, possibly killed in an allied bombing raid. He received a Purple heart postumously, however, she has been trying to find records of his service or anyone who may have known him. Anyone with any recollection or info on how to locate his service record is welcomed to contact us.

Military Background: I served the the Marines from '99-'03 Medically retired as a Sergeant. Served abroad in Infantry Battallions, as well as the 2nd Fleet Anti-Terrorism Security Company in the Middle East as well as all over Europe.
Comments: My grandfather, Andrew L. Fisher was a radio operator/turrent gunner with the Patrol Squadron 83, later known Bombing Squadron 107, his unit served in South America. He was shot down over Brazil or Argentina, I'm not totally sure where. His unit was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation for actions from January to April of '43; July of '43 to February of '44 for sinking one Italian and eight German U-Boats. I have always been interested in his experience but was never aware of it until 15 years after his death. I quess he never talked about it, partly due to his craft being shot down and he and only one other survived the crash. If anyone has any info regarding A.Fisher or Patrol Squadron 83 or later known Bombing Squadron 107, I would love to learn or hear any stories. -Sgt Fisher, B.L USMC/RETIRED

Flew to Gaudalcanal and the Philippnes. This guy was also on the boxing team. Hopefully some one else may recall him and pass on some info about their times together. The 5th ERS served at Halesworth flying Catalinas, B17's and P47 Thunderbolt "spotter planes". We have just erected a beautiful memorial at the former airbase to the memory of the 5th Emergency Rescue Squadron. It stands next to the 2 other memorials dedicated to the other main groups who served at Halesworth, the 56th Fighter Group "Zemkes Wolpack" and the 489th Bomb Group. Any memoribillia of any of these groups is still welcome. If any body needs any information about our group and/or the units that served here please contact me.

Comments: I'm looking for info regarding any reports or logs that were kept by PBY pilots after search missions. In particular wreckage sighting coordinates or search area coordinates. NARA says that actual search reports weren't kept before Dec/43. My uncle was lost in a Liberator 1103-43 off the coast of Funafuti-Central Pacific.Wreckage was sighted 1105-43 by Lt's Finucane and Hollister-flying PBY-5's for Patrol Squadron Seventy-Two. I would appreciate any information anyone might have regarding the possibility of flight logs etc. I know its a long shot but thanks. L.

Comments: My father, Donald Ray Luther, was stationed at Ault Field 19500954 as a patrol bomber radioman (VP0). I remember as a child going to the seaplane base to see movies and shop. The home we lived in at that time still stands and the neighborhood (between the old downtown and the seaplane base) remains mostly unchanged in 50 years (just a few more homes between the house and harbor). comments: My father, Donald Ray Luther, was a PBY flight crew member during WWII. I don't have any details regarding his service but believe he was stationed out of Corpus Christi and served in the south Pacific. I don't know if he ever served at the Oak Harbor Seaplane Base. I'm interested in the history of the seaplane base and Ault Field.

Comments: My father was a AMM 3 on a PBY in the Navy during WW II. I happened upon your site and was very excited to see the planes he used to talk about. His job was the radio operator, he said he would have to lie down in the belly of the plain for most of the long flights. I would love to see a PBY up close, if you aware of any of these planes in the New England area either in a museum or offering exibition I would appreciate the tip?
Thanks for your time and a terrific site.

Comments: I don't know how I grew to love the PBY. I've always been interested in planes, particularly warbirds. I guess the versatility is what attracted it to me. It's one of the few warbirds still in commercial use (firebombing). That says a lot about how tough the PBY is.
I am a mechanical engineering student at WSU. I'm starting work on designing a 50% scale version of the PBY using composite materials.

Discovered PBYMA.org: Always looking for anything about PBYs
Military Background: Navy from 1945 to 1948 on Kaneohe Bay Naval Air Station. Soon as I was 17 I got out of school.
Comments: I was in the Crash Crew all that time and was around PBYs, PBMs and PB4Y2s. I have formed a love for the PBYs and can't get enough information on them. So it was great to see this site. I have a few pictures of the base and planes. Write me if you are interested.

Discovered PBYMA.org: Dad and Brother - Adolph Meisch Sr. and Adolph Meisch Jr. (aka Skip)
Military Background: #2 of Adolph and Dolores's nine children. Born shortly after Dad was transfered to NAS Glenview IL which was to be our home for 17 years. I enjoyed the many benefits of growing up on the base... (10 cent movies!)
Comments: My Dad has always been my #1 hero. I'm very excited to see the progress of the PBY Memorial Foundation. It's wonderful to watch the dream of owning a Catalina come together.

Great job on the website Meisch Skip and Dad!

Discovered PBYMA.org: PBY researching for an art piece I am doing
Military Background: NA
Comments: My grandfather was part of a crew in the Black Cats during WWII and he's had some models of them in his TV room since I can remember, I was always intrigued by the design and function of the plane not to mention the fact my grandfather had been a part of them during a war. I'm doing a computer generated painting of the old cat for a present to my grandfather Doc Strader. Good thing he's not got a computer or I'd be blowing my cover right now. =)

PS.. I live in Oak Harbor and I hope we do get the Memorial. If it weren't for that plane I bet this town wouldn't exist... well not as big anyway.

Military Background: Navy Brat, son of Commander TF90.1.1 Adopted member of VP62, USN enlistee 1963, out in 1964 (prior to Gulf of Tonkin Incident')
Comments: The "Cat" was one of the most versatile aircraft of WWII. The plane was graceful in flight and has been underrated for many years, being in use in different roles even today. Many people owe their lives to the valiant crews who flew these dependable and rugged aircraft in harm's way. I use this site in my school and have given it to 2 other schools who claim to use it.
